Castle Combe is a wonderful place to visit for that pure Cotswold charm, old English feel, with photo opportunities at every corner. Walking down the village high street feels like stepping into a postcard! It’s is a conservation area with 107 listed buildings and there are no electricity cables or satellite dishes on show so it really does feel like you have gone back in time. It’s a stunning village and very pretty. It’s not one that you want to miss.

The main thing to do in Castle Combe is to walk about an explore the village by foot. There are beautiful cottages, an historic church and a ‘insta-famous’ bridge a the bottom of the village where everybody goes to et there photo taken; it makes a lovely picture with a view of the whole village with the river in the foreground. It’s just GORGEOUS.
What is there to do with the kids?
Well, Castle Combe is pretty, but unless your kids love admiring historic buildings (mine, not so much), there is not much there specifically for them. That being said, if you get creative, you can have a very pleasant fun filled afternoon with your children in Castle Combe, and here’s how.
- Cake! Choose a cake from a home made cake stand! Cake is always a hit with the whole family, right ? There are lovely honesty stands set up outside people homes, where you can buy homemade treats.
- Go for a Walk There is a lovely pretty walk around Castle Combe, let the kids have fun in natures playground. Take in the woodland and streams, allowing for adventures, climbing, den building and paddling! Click here for details of this 3.5 mile circular.
- Have a picnic. Bring a picnic or stop at The Little Picnic Shop which is a small shop in the village selling picnics to take away, you can find a spot by the river or eat it in the small park (located behind the shop). The park also has some play equipment but its quite small and mostly suited to smaller children.
What else do I need to know?
Parking: The car park is located at the top of a hill above the village,SN14 7HU. After paying for a ticket, walk down the hill in to the village.
Eat/Drink: Stop at one of the pubs for a drink and some hot food. You can choose from The Castle Inn, or the White Hart, both located in the village centre.
There is also one café in the village, The Old Stables Coffee Shop.
Shops: There are no convenience stores or shops in the village, however there are usually a few honesty shops selling small gifts such as dried lavender or home-made cakes outside peoples homes. There is also The Little Picnic Shop where you can buy take-away picnic lunches.
