Stow on the Wold to Broadwell

5.6 k / 3.5 miles

Highlights: The walk from Stow on the Wold to Broadwell offers picturesque views of the Cotswold countryside, starting at the charming marke town of Stow on the Wold, with cotswold stone buildings and  bustling market square. Walk through rolling hills to arrive at the tranquil village of Broadwell, with its quaint stone houses, pretty village green, and the picturesque Broadwell Brook running through it.

How long did it take? 2 hours with the kids and the usual stops for play and snacks!

Parking: Park in the free long stay car park adjacent to Tesco supermarket, just off the Fosse Way, GL54 1BX.

Eat/ Drink: The Fox Inn at Broadwell; there are lots of options in Stow on the Wold. We love the  Queens’ head pub or the famous Huffkins cafe.

Accessibility: Well marked footpaths and quiet country lanes, with some moderate inclines and declines.

Facilities: Public toilets at Stow on the Wold on the High Street, GL54 1DL.

Step by step:

From the car park, head left and walk to the centre of Stow on the Wold. Once on the High Street, take a left opposite the police station into Parson’s Corner.

Continue along Parson’s Corner. At the end of the oad, turn left at Well Lane ( there is a sign here ‘To the Wells’).

Continue along Well Lane. When you reach a house on the right, continue straight ahead. The oradea ends and turns in to a track.

Continue along the track until you reach a road. Turn right and follow the road into Broadwell.

Arriving at Broadwell village green, continue straight across and turn left where the river crosses the road.

Follow the road, past Foxes Row on the left and stay left at the junction with Kennel Lane on your right.

Continue straight, and at the top of the slope, you’ll see a bus stop. Just in front of the bus stop, veer off the road to the left and follow the path along the stream.

The footpath comes out onto a road. Turn right, follow the road, and head past a row of cottages. At the end of this row of cottages, across the road, next to a farm gate, look for a footpath on the left-hand side.

Follow the footpath through the church yard of St. Paul’s Church and out on to the side to the road. Turn left and follow the road up the hill all the way to the Fosse Way.

Taking extra care here, cross the busy road. There’s a footpath on the other side. Follow this footpath to a large gate.

At the gate, turn left and follow the footpath, eventually finding yourself back on the Fosse Way.

Turn right and follow the Fosse Way back towards Stow-on-the-Wold, taking lots of care with children or dogs on the verge of this busy road. The car park is on the left by Tesco
